Learn how to use the OBD Kiosk and find your vehicle's OBD2 port

What is an OBD2 Port?

The OBD2 (On-Board Diagnostics) port is a standardized connector in your vehicle that allows diagnostic tools to communicate with your car's computer system. It's required by law in all vehicles manufactured after 1996 in the United States.

Where to Find Your OBD2 Port

The OBD2 port is typically located in one of these areas:

  • Under the dashboard - Most commonly found on the driver's side, below the steering wheel
  • Near the center console - Sometimes located between the driver and passenger seats
  • Under the hood - Less common, but some vehicles have it in the engine compartment
  • Behind the ashtray - In some older vehicles

What Does It Look Like?

The OBD2 port is a trapezoidal-shaped connector with 16 pins arranged in two rows. It's usually black or gray and may have a cover. The port is about 2 inches wide and 1 inch tall.

Tips for Finding It

  • Look for a small rectangular or trapezoidal cover that can be removed
  • Check the area directly below the steering wheel - it's often within arm's reach
  • If you can't find it, check your vehicle's owner's manual for the exact location
  • Some vehicles have a label or icon indicating the OBD port location
  • The port should be easily accessible without removing any panels

Common Vehicle Locations

  • Sedans: Usually under the dashboard on the driver's side
  • SUVs/Trucks: Often near the center console or under the dashboard
  • European vehicles: Sometimes located near the fuse box or in the center console
  • Asian vehicles: Typically under the dashboard on the driver's side
